Only a week after the release of Google Buzz, some hackers have found an exploit after tirelessly looking for one. Awesome! They found an exploit that can completely compromise your Google buzz account! According to ha.ckers.org, the exploit actually is inside the code on the mobile side of things.

Google has already applied a patch to this exploit, it was deployed Tuesday night with an email from Google explaining the whole messed up situation. The cross-site scripting error which is common in web applications involved an exploit where an attacker can inject client-side scripts into web pages viewed by others.

Google issued a statement that there was “no indication that the vulnerability was actively abused.” It is certainly very promising for Google Buzz users that the exploit is already patched and no sensitive data was stolen or compromised, but let’s get serious here.. it shouldn’t have happened in the first place. It is like Buzz was shipped out just to get it out of the way, and I have a strange feeling that they are regretting it.

If you are scared out of your mind, I suggest you disable Buzz. It just isn’t worth the hassle.

Personally, I am not a huge fan of Google Buzz. I don’t care about all that privacy mumbo jumbo so much, I guess I am just afraid of change. It is like starting something completely new, and since I am just starting everything up on Twitter and Facebook, I don’t see a decent enough reason to start once again on Google Buzz. To me, it seems like a nice feature that simply isn’t needed.. for me.

So I was trying to figure out how to disable it so it wouldn’t show in my sidebar, and I found out it was actually extremely simple! There have been lot’s of websites reporting that you need to go into settings then go to a tab that said ‘Buzz’ which most people didn’t even seem to have (myself included) so I found another way! Just scroll down to the bottom of the page, and click “turn off Buzz”. Tough, right?

Apparently Google has been in the process of making some wicked software that can translate text from pictures that you take with your cell phone into different languages! Sadly it can’t translate spoken words, but it can translate something from say.. a German dinner menu. The demonstration by Google translated the text: “Fruhlingssalat mit Wildkrautern” to “Spring salad with wild herbs.” The demonstration took a photo of a German dinner menu, sending back the translation, using an Android based phone.

Google has said that the software doesn’t actually translate the text on your phone, which could be slow and inaccurate, but instead sends it to Google’s servers for processing. The picture is translated on Google’s cloud-based network, which can process a translation faster and more accurately than your phone.

Google didn’t mention when the software would be available for your mobile phone, or exactly what platforms would be supported. The software will be available for the Android, however, but no mention if Google plans on expanding these services to Windows Mobile or the iPhone. Google CEO, Eric Schmidt, mentioned that more and more applications will take advantage of “cloud computing,” a resource Google is likely to expand on over the years to improve its speed. I don’t know about you, but I am looking forward to this. Hopefully it will be ported to the iPhone, or maybe somebody else snatches up this idea and figures out a way to do it on their own.

We can only hope!

The folks at Search Engine Land are brilliant, and this article is a godsend for so many.

Google says it may allow people to participate in Google Buzz without having it integrated within Gmail, in addition to offering a combined Gmail service. That may be a welcome move for users of both products, especially in light of the substantial privacy concerns voiced this week about Google Buzz.

“It’s clear that interest in Buzz may extend beyond the current Gmail base, and we’re open to serving that community,” said Bradley Horowitz, Google’s VP of Product Marketing, when I spoke to him about some Buzz issues at the TED Conference.

Horowitz stressed that Google would still offer a version of Buzz within Gmail, in addition to any independent version.

“We think that Buzz within Gmail is a great experience, and we’ll keep offering that as well,” Horowitz said.

According to Businessweek, hell is going to freeze over. The Apple iPhone might be losing it’s default browser of Google to Bing, and Apple said that hell will have to freeze over before Apple partners with Microsoft at all.

It’s a pretty risky deal, I personally hope that they still allow Google to be chosen as a serach engine on the iPhone, but I don’t thinkg the rivalry will go quite that far, at least I certainitly hope not.

Microsoft and apple are also rivals, but it doesn’t mean that they can’t work together or make products for one anther’s operating systems. At least Microsoft does, with it’s Office application like Word and PowerPoint. I don’t see many Apple applications ported over to PC.. but I guess with Apple’s low market share it seems to be justified.

“Apple and Google know the other is their primary enemy,” says one of the people, who’s familiar with Apple’s thinking. “Microsoft is now a pawn in that battle.”

If these battles are successful, it could also mean that Bing could eventually replace Google as the default search engine for Apple’s desktop version of Safari as well.

With Google’s entry into the mobile phone business as well as Apple’s recent acquisition of a mobile ad company, the two businesses have encroached on each other’s territories. Apple has even been said to be working on distancing itself from Google’s Maps data in the iPhone, which will be amazingly difficult for the iPhone to replace. Because of recent reports of Apple having billions of dollars to toy with, I really don’t see that part to be much of a problem, I am sure they can qcuire a company that can make a competing map application without much of a problem.

The future will definitely be different, especially in a week with the hundreds of reports of the new Apple product being an “iPad” or an “Apple Tablet” or whatever they may call it. We’ll have to see, and I can’t wait open my eyes!

So many times clients of mine have called up complaining that every time they open Internet Explorer their computer seems to crash or melt down. It took me a while to figure this out, but apparently the Google Toolbar seems to have some issues with IE6 and IE7. And since both of those browsers (and just about all browsers from IE6+) have a Google search bar built in, and pop-up blocker, and just about everything you need.. What’s the point of the toolbar?

It took me a while, but I finally figured out all the people’s problems that have been calling me up. Google Toolbar! It’s super easy to uninstall, and odds are you installed it thinking it was really nessasary. Just go to your Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, find Google Toolbar, and uninstall it. It take’s seconds, and also makes your internet explorer loadup time a little bit faster (or Firefox too).

Definitely worth the uninstall!
