Save your window position for dual-screen monitors
Technology on January 26th, 2010 View Comments

Dual ScreenSometimes you just might have a rogue window that just will never seem to open on the window you want it to, no matter where you close it or open it from or whatever your case may be. There really is a simple fix to this problem, it usually involves just one extra key stroke and you should be set! Here’s how:

  1. Open up your program or document. It will open in the wrong window, that’s fine for now.
  2. Move the window to the position you want it. You will need to “de-maximize” the window in order to move it.
  3. Hold down the SHIFT Key, and close the window using the X on the top right.
  4. That’s it!

Nice and simple! That shift key pretty much solves your problem in this situation. There are only two real reasons why this would happen, you either moved the program there once a while ago and it just decided to save itself over there, or you loaded up a full screen game that changed the resolution of the monitors and that shoved it over there.

Small annoyances like this are usually easily fixable, just gotta know where to look and how to get it done!

Holding the Shift key does not always work. Some applications are not “dual-monitor” aware.
